Welcome to The Sports Hangover
Hello, sports fans! Welcome to another episode of The Sports Hangover. I’m your host, Michael Benatar, and joining me is the ever-enthusiastic J Dawg. Today, we're diving into our NFC gamble and fantasy preview as football season draws near. So grab your jerseys – I’ve got my double zero on, though sadly, my jerseys didn't print out as planned from China. No “The Sports Hangover” on the back, but we’re still repping our teams!
NFC East: Can the Eagles Repeat?
Now, let’s jump right into the NFC East. Fresh off their Super Bowl win last season, the Philadelphia Eagles are favored heavily at -145 to win the division with an over/under of 11.5 wins. J Dawg, what are your thoughts on their chances for a repeat?
Honestly, I’m not so sure. The dreaded Super Bowl hangover could be real for them, and they face stiffer competition this year. The New York Giants, believe it or not, have made some upgrades and could be looking to challenge. Plus, the Dallas Cowboys may surprise us. I think we might see the Eagles struggle in a more competitive NFC East this year.
Commanders vs. Cowboys: Who Will Prevail?
Speaking of the Commanders, Jaden Daniels looks to make a mark in his sophomore season, sporting 2024 MVP odds at +750. Will Washington's quarterback lead this squad to glory?
Skip past Washington for now. Who knows? The team looks uninspired. On to the Dallas Cowboys, at +600 odds with an over/under of 7.5 wins. They’ve added quarterback upgrades and look to bounce back, but let’s be honest: the franchise’s coaching situation is still a mess.
Giants: A Potential Disaster
Now, the Giants are a real enigma. Between Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jackson Dart all on the roster, it’s like a chaotic episode of "Survivor." When you have too many quarterbacks, you actually have none. They’re shaping up to potentially be the Browns of the NFC.
In short, every team in this division has their question marks, but I’m putting my money on the Eagles facing a tough season ahead.
NFC North: The Big Question Marks
Now, let's take a trip to the NFC North, where I’m calling it early—the Minnesota Vikings might finish at the bottom. With a rookie quarterback and Justin Jefferson coming back from a knee injury, I don’t think they're going to be the Super Bowl contenders everyone hopes they will be.
Meanwhile, it seems I’m the only person who doesn’t believe in Caleb Williams. The Chicago Bears seem to be in turmoil. Can they really improve their winning record? I’m not buying it.
As for the Green Bay Packers, they have a good shot at the division at +260. With Jordan Love leading the charge and solid receivers coming into the mix, I think the Packers could lock things down.
NFC South: Who’s Coming Out On Top?
Now onto the NFC South, which is really a tough division to feel confident about. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the current favorites at even odds to win the division. Baker Mayfield’s experience and potential might serve them well here, as the other teams—like the Saints—are clearly in decline. Are they even trying to win?
While the Atlanta Falcons have their own quarterback situation with Michael Penix Jr., I believe that the Bucs hold the advantage here. The division is weak, and Tampa looks to capitalize.
NFC West: The Best Division in Football
Finally, we arrive at the NFC West, the best division in football! The San Francisco 49ers seem to have a poor reputation with their odds set vastly too high after a disappointing 6-11 season last year. The over/under of 10.5 wins seems absurd to me. I’m hammering the under.
But who has the chance at the top? I’m looking at Seattle. With Sam Darnold joining the squad, there’s potential, but I wonder if he can handle high expectations after floating around the league. The Rams might also play the upset card this year with Stafford at the helm.
