As Jaydog and I shared our thoughts, it's safe to say we barely survived the chaos of Week One. When it came to picking teams for our Survivor pool, I made the call to switch my pick to Denver, and let’s just say, it was a nerve-wracking decision. Jaydog was right — I should’ve stuck with my original instincts!
There were highs and lows all around. The Eagles came out flat, while the Cowboys looked strong. We saw teams like the Titans and Cowboys have chances in the fourth quarter, throwing deep to tie or win, but the execution wasn’t there for either squad. It was clear: Week One was filled with unexpected turns, both disappointing and impressive.
Kansas City failed to dominate as expected, losing to the Chargers. Given the Chiefs' history, losses in September are rare, especially for Andy Reid. Now, fans are left wondering if the team is in decline or just having an off week.
On the flip side, the Chargers showed promise under Justin Herbert, lighting up the field in a way reminiscent of Joe Montana. Could this be the year for the Chargers to finally break through?
Surprising Performances and Teams to Watch
After Week One, several teams caught our attention. The Dallas Cowboys showed a defensive prowess we didn’t expect, while the Raiders surprised me with their win over the Patriots. Then there are the Miami Dolphins, whose struggles were evident, prompting some serious questions regarding their coaching staff and quarterback situation.
As for the Colts, unexpected brilliance on their part made us reassess their potential. If they maintain this pace, they could be in the playoff conversation by the end of the season. This leads to a critical betting insight: if you’re considering where to put your money each week, look closely at the trends following Week One.
Betting Insights: What to Consider
Week Two is upon us, and I have several thoughts on Survivor picks and betting strategies:
- Survivor Picks:
- I’m leaning toward Buffalo, Baltimore, or maybe even the Cowboys against the Giants. The Bengals are one of the favorites this week, but with Joe Burrow’s September woes, they might not be a wise choice.

Watch out for the Lions, especially with their matchup against the Bears. They have something to prove after a rocky Week One.

- Home teams typically have the upper hand, with home favorites winning at a much higher rate. This should inform your choices on where to wager.

The Cowboys matchup against the Broncos is also one I’m watching closely. If Russell Wilson is starting at Dallas and struggles, this could be a confident play for the Cowboys.

- Don’t get caught up in betting on teams that had flashy openings to their seasons. Assess who they faced and whether they were truly tested.
- The Bills and Bengals are heavy favorites but tread carefully selecting them for your Survivor pick. Their emotional rollercoaster from last week’s games could lead to unexpected letdowns.
Final Thoughts
As we all know, the start of the NFL season often leads us to overreact to early performances. While some teams are off to a great start, it’s essential to hold off from getting too hyped too soon. By the end of the season, you’ll see some teams rise while others fall flat. Be strategic with your bets and Survivor picks — there’s money to be made if we play it right!
